Selecting the Best Online Degree Program
To select the program that will help you earn the most valuable degree be sure to fortify yourself with the most research possible. Review the following sections to find out what questions to ask you prospective school, current employer and even yourself.
Your prospective school: You should investigate the general reputation of the school by doing online research and talking to people in your field. Who are the faculty? In many cases, they are highly experienced professionals who prefer to teach online for the flexibility and the quality of the program—the same reasons you choose to learn there! You should also have an initial consultation with an admissions counselor and learn what credit you can receive for the education, military service, and work experience you already have.
Your current employer: Does your company have funds for tuition reimbursement or other incentives for employees pursuing a degree? What are the prospects within your current company and in your field as a whole for someone with a the degree you’d like to earn?
Yourself: Are you truly committed to earning the degree? Can you meet the requirements of the program—going online the required number of times per week, keeping up with the reading, turning in assignments on time? Where do you want to be in five years, and how will your degree help you get there?
